Die Błędów-Wüste wird aufgrund ihrer einzigartigen wüstenartigen Landschaft auch „Polnische Sahara“ genannt. Klimatisch handelt es sich hier nicht um eine echte Wüste: Die Niederschläge sind zu hoch, aber die Sandlandschaft und Phänomene wie Luftspiegelungen und Sandstürme waren hier früher weit verbreitet. Im 20. Jahrhundert wurde das Gelände als militärisches Übungsgelände genutzt, unter anderem vom deutschen Afrikakorps während des Zweiten Weltkriegs.
Das Gebiet steht heute teilweise unter Naturschutz und ist Teil des Natura 2000-Netzwerks. Die Błędów-Wüste ist aufgrund ihrer einzigartigen Landschaft und der damit verbundenen Legenden eine beliebte Touristenattraktion. Es gibt Wanderwege und Aussichtspunkte, insbesondere bei Klucze, wo noch große Sandebenen sichtbar sind.
