Die Biblioteca Joanina ist eine der Universitätsbibliothek der portugiesischen Universität Coimbra zugehörige Bibliothek. Sie wurde im 18. Jahrhundert durch den damaligen König von Portugal Johann V. in Auftrag gegeben. Von 1717 bis 1728 wurde sie dann durch den Baumeister João Carvalho Ferreira errichtet. Die Bibliothek befindet sich in der Juristischen Fakultät der Universität und gilt als bedeutendes Bauwerk und Meisterleistung des Barock. Der Eingang wird von einem prächtigen Portal geschmückt. Der Bestand der Bibliothek umfasst über 200.000 kostbare Bücher von der Antike bis zur frühen Neuzeit in drei miteinander verbundenen Sälen. Der schwarze Saal, aus Ebenholz mit Goldverzierungen, enthält Werke der Antike, der rote Saal mit Mahagoni- und Rosenholz, Werke der Wissenschaft und der grüne Saal der Philosophie und Theologie.
