Die 22. Handball-Weltmeisterschaft der Männer wurde vom 13. bis 30. Januar 2011 in Schweden ausgetragen. Weltmeister wurde die Auswahl Frankreichs vor Dänemark und Spanien. Deutschland belegte den 11. und Österreich den 18. Platz. Die Schweiz schied bereits in der Qualifikation zur Handball-Weltmeisterschaft aus.
Am 18. Oktober 2008 wurde in Herzogenaurach durch den Council der Internationalen Handballföderation Schweden als Gastgeber bestimmt. Schweden setzte sich mit seiner Bewerbung im ersten Wahlgang mit sieben von 13 Stimmen gegen Dänemark, Ungarn und Spanien durch. Damit ist Schweden zum vierten Mal Gastgeber des Turniers; das Land war bereits Gastgeber der Weltmeisterschaft 1954, 1967 und 1993.
