Die Fünfte Schlacht am Isonzo fand vom 9. bis 15. März 1916 zwischen den Armeen des Königreichs Italien und denen von Österreich-Ungarn statt. Die Italiener hatten beschlossen, eine weitere Offensive am Fluss Soča zu starten.
Nach vier Versuchen, den Fluss Soča zu überqueren und in das österreichisch-ungarische Gebiet einzudringen, organisierte Luigi Cadorna, der italienische Oberbefehlshaber, eine starke neue Offensive nach der winterlichen Kampfpause, die es dem italienischen Oberkommando ermöglicht hatte, sich neu zu gruppieren und 8 neue Divisionen für die Front zu organisieren.
