Die Vorgänger der 1685 gegründeten Ortschaft waren Schurawka und Jurassowka aus denen später Chutor-Michailowski bzw. ukrainisch Chutir-Mychajliwskyj wurde. Der Ort bekam im Dezember 1962 die Stadtrechte und seinen heutigen Namen verliehen.
Vom 1. Oktober 1941 bis zum 5. September 1943 war Chutor-Mychailowskyj von der Wehrmacht besetzt. Die St. Nikolaus-Kirche, ein Kirchengebäude der Ukrainisch-Orthodoxen Kirche Kiewer Patriarchats wurde im Jahr 2010 neu erbaut.
