Putywl ist eine Stadt im Norden der Ukraine in der Oblast Sumy mit rund 15.000 Einwohnern und ist das Verwaltungszentrum des gleichnamigen Rajons.
Die Stadt hat eine lange Geschichte, von der viele sehenswerte Baudenkmäler wie Klöster und Kirchen erhalten sind.
Putywl liegt am rechten Ufer des Flusses Seim, einem Nebenfluss der Desna, etwa 100 km nordwestlich vom Oblastzentrum Sumy und 42 km südlich von Hluchiw. Durch die Stadt verläuft die Regionalstraße P–44 und die Territorialstraßen T–19–11 und T–19–22 nehmen in Putywl ihren Anfang. Die Stadt Putywl bildet eine eigenständige Stadtgemeinde.
