Schytomyr ist eine Großstadt in der Ukraine mit etwa 270.000 Einwohnern und Verwaltungssitz der gleichnamigen Oblast.
Die Stadt liegt in einer welligen Landschaft am Ufer des Teteriw, einem Nebenfluss des Dnepr und ist Verkehrsknotenpunkt, Industriezentrum und kultureller Mittelpunkt mit Hochschulen, Theater und Museen. Schytomyr gliedert sich in die zwei Stadtrajone Rajon Bohunyja und Rajon Koroljowsk. Wirtschaftlich dominiert der Maschinenbau und – in agrarischer Umgebung – die Lebensmittelindustrie. In der Nähe wird vorzüglicher Marmor abgebaut. Der vom Observatorium Andruschiwka entdeckte Asteroid Zhytomyr wurde nach der Stadt benannt.
