Fort Ross war von 1812 bis 1841 eine Niederlassung der Russisch-Amerikanischen Handelskompagnie in Kalifornien. Es liegt an der Küste des Pazifiks im heutigen Sonoma County, etwa 145 Kilometer nordwestlich von San Francisco.
Als südlichster befestigter Außenposten Russisch-Amerikas diente Fort Ross sowohl als Stützpunkt für die Pelztierjagd als auch der Versorgung von russischen Handelsniederlassungen in Alaska mit Lebensmitteln.
