Die Sandia Mountains befinden sich östlich der Stadt Albuquerque im US-Bundesstaat New Mexico. Der höchste Berg dieses Gebirgszuges ist der Sandia Crest mit 3255 m Höhe. Der touristisch bedeutendere Berg ist der Sandia Peak . Von dem Sandia Peak ausgehend führt die zweitlängste Seilbahn der Welt, der Sandia Peak Tramway, in die Ebene, auf der sich Albuquerque befindet. An der Gipfelstation der Bahn befinden sich ein Restaurant und viele Picknick-Plätze. Auf der anderen Seite des Berges führt eine weitere Seilbahn, die allerdings bedeutend kürzer ist, den Berg hinab.
Die Sandia Mountains eignen sich zu vielerlei Freizeitaktivitäten, unter anderem zum Mountain-Biking, Wandern und im Winter auch zum Ski-Fahren.
Der Name stammt ursprünglich aus dem Spanischen und bedeutet Wassermelone. Vermutlich gaben die ersten spanischen Entdecker dem Gebirge diesen Namen aufgrund des Rotschimmers der Berge bei Sonnenuntergang.
