Der US-amerikanische Flugzeugträger USS Yorktown ist ein Träger der Essex-Klasse. Sie wurde The Fighting Lady oder The Lucky Y genannt, fuhr Einsätze während des Zweiten Weltkriegs im Pazifik und wurde besonders berühmt durch die Teilnahme an der Schlacht um die Marshallinseln, der Schlacht um die Marianen-Inseln und der Schlacht in der Philippinensee. Ebenso waren die Flugzeuge der USS Yorktown maßgeblich an der Versenkung des japanischen Schlachtschiffs Yamato beteiligt. Weiterhin fanden Operationen während des Vietnamkriegs statt.
Die Kiellegung am 1. Dezember 1941 in Newport News, Virginia, bei der Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company wurde noch unter dem zuvor vorgesehenen Namen Bon Homme Richard vorgenommen. Im September 1942 wurde sie im Gedenken an die bei der Midwayschlacht verlorene USS Yorktown auf deren Namen umbenannt. Der Stapellauf fand am 21. Januar 1943 statt und die Übergabe an die amerikanische Marine erfolgte am 15. April 1943.
