Point Pleasant wurde als Borough nach einem Referendum am 19. Mai 1920 etabliert. Im Jahr 1925 wurde der Point Pleasant Canal fertiggestellt. Dieser Kanal ist Teil des Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway.
