Der Ort liegt im Sandžak 35 km südwestlich von Novi Pazar im Okrug Raška und ist der Verwaltungssitz der Opština Tutin.
Zur Volkszählung 2011 bezeichneten sich 90 % der Gemeindeeinwohner als Bosniaken und jeweils 3,5 % als ethnische Muslime bzw. Serben.
Die Stadt erlebte seit längerem einen verhältnismäßig robusten Aufschwung, was in einer deutlich sichtbaren Bautätigkeit im gesamten Stadtgebiet zum Ausdruck kam.
