Von der 1015 gegründeten romanischen Abtei ist nichts als die Krypta (1016) und der Westbau (Ende 12. Jh.) erhalten.
Der Rest des Altarraums wurde ab 1514 im spätgotischen Stil neu gebaut.
Neben seinen aus vielen Rippen gebildeten Gewölben mit ihren großen bemalten Schlusssteinen, ist Saint-Jacques auch bekannt wegen seiner sehr schönen farbigen Renaissancefenster (1525) und seiner Barockfiguren aus weiß bemaltem Lindenholz (17. Jh.).
Das Kloster und die zugehörigen Gebäude wurden zwar im 19. Jahrhundert zerstört, aber die alte klösterliche Krankenstube wurde vor kurzem hinter modernen Fassaden entdeckt.
In ihr wird künftig das wallonische Zentrum für Bauarchäologie untergebracht.
