Am Abend des 27. Juni 1980 stürzte eine Douglas DC-9 der italienischen Fluggesellschaft Aerolinee Itavia mit dem Kennzeichen I-TIGI auf Aerolinee-Itavia-Flug 870 nördlich der italienischen Insel Ustica auf dem Wege von Bologna nach Palermo aus zunächst ungeklärter Ursache ins Tyrrhenische Meer. Alle 81 Insassen starben bei diesem Flugunfall, der in Italien als „strage di Ustica“ bekannt wurde.
