Auf dem Hügel, der die gesamte Altstadt dominiert, steht die Einsiedelei San Roque, eine der ältesten im Süden Teneriffas. Der Ursprung dieser Einsiedelei ist unklar, aber man geht davon aus, dass sie im frühen 17. Jahrhundert von der Familie Soler erbaut wurde.
Die Kapelle wurde 1614 von der Familie Soler gestiftet. Das Gebäude war sehr bescheiden, denn 1778 wies der Besucher Gaspar Álvarez de Castro darauf hin, dass es aufgrund seiner niedrigen Höhe vergrößert werden müsse. Es blieb jedoch mit seinem Glockenturm , wie er noch heute steht, sehr schlicht .
