Aschau im Zillertal is a municipality with 1,877 inhabitants in the Ziller Valley and belongs to the Schwaz district in Tyrol. The municipality is located in the judicial district of Zell am Ziller. Aschau is situated at the transition from the front to the back Ziller Valley, at a constriction. It is, along with Mayrhofen, the only municipality on both sides of the Ziller River. The municipality area consists of the main town of Aschau and scattered hamlets on the mountain slopes and in the valley floor.
