The Gaistal valley is located in Tyrol and separates the Wetterstein mountains in the north from the Mieming mountains in the south. It starts about 5 km east of Ehrwald and extends to Leutasch. The valley, which is closed to car traffic, is flanked on both sides by a series of well-known mountains. A large hiker parking area on the eastern edge of the Gaistal can be reached from Leutasch via a toll road by car or public bus.
