Description

The Brixlegg station is a local transport station in Brixlegg on the Lower Inn Valley Railway from Kufstein via Wörgl to Innsbruck. It is served daily by about 70 trains on a regular schedule.
The railway line from Kufstein to Innsbruck was opened in 1858. On November 24, 1858, the first train, which was ceremoniously welcomed at the stations along the route, traveled from Innsbruck to Kufstein. The Brixlegg station was for a long time an important stop, even for long-distance traffic. Due to the bridge's high strategic importance during World War II, the station and the nearby Inn Bridge in Brixlegg were targets of Allied bombing raids towards the end of the war. Other significant events included the accident in 1964, when a freight train derailed towards Innsbruck, completely damaging the western switch point, and the 1982 accident, in which a freight train heading for Jesenice/Graz derailed with two cars, causing property damage as well.
