Rufling Castle

Rufling Castle is located in the town of the same name, Rufling, in the municipality of Leonding in the Linz-Land district.
The first mention of a residence dates back to 791. Under Odalsalh of Rudolfvingen, it was owned by Passau. In 1120, Otto and Hartwik Lengau from Grieskirchen are mentioned as owners. In 1133, the residence came to the Meginhart family and in 1154 to the Wilhering Abbey. A document from the abbey mentions a Rudolfingen between 1151 and 1161. In 1159, Rufling is listed as the property of Bishop Konrad of Passau. Frau Williburg, a born Waxenberger, received Rufling as a marriage settlement in 1215. After her husband and son were murdered, the property passed to a relative. In 1280, Rufling came to the Linz citizen Heinrich von Jetzigner and still in the same year to the brothers Heinrich and Otto von Lohnsdorf. In 1302, Rufling belonged to the Göttweig Abbey. In 1475, Rufling is documented as the knightly seat of the Stettner family. In 1648, Rufling was the seat of the Vice-Dominus and the Vice-Dominate.
