The route first runs along the Danube and Hainburger Kastln. In spring, hundreds of frogs and toads gather to mate, shortly after countless tadpoles throng the waters. After the Rötelstein rock, you descend again towards the floodplain – in spring accompanied by the intense smell of wild garlic – and follow a side arm that only carries water in spring on the right. Here, fluttering elms and Norway maples dominate, a sign that the location is significantly drier. Then the forest becomes sparser, and you reach a large meadow area, one of the former Hainburg pasturelands. After passing a small stand of ashes and field maples, you leave the national park area, cross the Hainburg golf course, which was also established in the 1960s on a pasture, and reach Thebener Straße. The last section of the route first runs through vineyards and finally leads back to the Danube over the rocks east of the bathhouse.
