Celtic path

Starting point:
Parking lot Donaulände 2-3 at Donaucafé.

From the parking lot, one climbs over karst rocks to the upper Danube circular path. Passing small dry grassland sites, where springtime dwarf iris bloom, one follows the narrow path through a sparse stand of tree of heaven, Wych elm, and hawthorn. After crossing Braunsbergstraße, the path continues uphill through a stand of black locust trees. Recurring hunting facilities – feeding sites and high stands – indicate the density of wildlife. Upon reaching the open high plateau of Braunsberg, an impressive 360° panorama unfolds. Especially in spring, botanical rarities such as feather grass and feather pink thrive around the Celtic rampart, and in late summer, praying mantises or red tube spiders impress. The Braunsberg plateau is left to the east and plunges into a loose stand of downy oak and field maple. The path then reaches the vineyards at the foot of Braunsberg and proceeds towards Bergbad and over the rocks back to the Danube.
