Triassic Trail

This four-kilometre-long learning trail is great for all the family. It begins at the top of the cable cars in Waidring Steinplatte and invites both adults and children to embark on a journey back in time to the Triassic period when the area was covered in water by the ancient Tethys ocean. The traces left behind, including numerous fossils, teach visitors about ancient flora and fauna as well as geology. Along the way, walkers must solve a series of challenges. Highlights include a viewing platform in the shape of a fan coral, a giant coral reef, lifesize models of dinosaurs as well as the summit of the Steinplatte mountain (1,869 metres) offering fabulous views of the Loferer Rocky Mountains, the Hohe Tauern Mountains, the Kitzbühel Alps and the Zillertal Alps.
Departing from the top of the Steinplatte/Waidring cable car, walk past the Plattenkogel reservoir and along a slope known as the "Südhang" on a well-maintained trail. It takes approximately one hour to reach the mighty cross on the summit of the Steinplatte mountain, at an elevation of 1,869 metres above sea level. The trail brings you back to the top terminal, where you skirt the right hand side of a rock face known as the Red Wall and return to the Triassic Park.
