The Tirolean Unterland offers a wide range of options for crossing the German border into neighbouring Bavaria. One of the most popular rides takes in five lakes and starts in the village of Wiesing. The 150.5km include 1,572 vertical metres of climbing via the Thiersee, Schliersee, Spitzingsee, Tegernsee and Achensee lakes all the way back to Wiesing. None of the climbs are too steep, making this an ideal training ride in spring. The only relatively steep ramp is to the Spitzingsee lake - a good chance to test your early season form! Highlights of the ride include the car-free section from the Spitzingsee lake to Rottach-Egern and the cycle path at the Achensee lake.
This ride begins in the village of Wiesing, near the motorway exit for Lake Achensee, and initially passes Kramsach, the Reintaler See lake, Angerberg and Maria Stein on quiet roads to Kufstein. Most of this first section along the Inn Valley is flat, making the first 40km a good warm-up.
