From Spiss, we hike for about 45 minutes along a forest road until the sign "Muttakopf Trail No. 9" points left to a path. You then reach a fountain with seating for a short rest. Continuing along the same marking, you cross beautiful alpine meadows with botanical treasures to Muttakopf. From Muttakopf, you have a fantastic view of the neighboring village of Samnaun, Nauders, Lake Reschen, and the surrounding Ötztal Alps. From the summit cross, we hike along the ridge, slightly ascending to "in der Keil" at 2679m, below Rotspitze to the summit cross of Kreuzjoch at 2698m. Also, a wonderful view of the surrounding mountains. The slightly steeper descent leads to Kobler Alm. Here, one should not miss out on a hearty alpine snack. Our return path takes us back along forest and meadow trails to the hamlet of Gstalda - further to Gstaldner Tal - over Heusattel back to Spiss.
