Valley Of The Winds Walk

Kata Tjuta literally means 'many heads'. How can we better explore the 36 rocks than with a walk that runs right through them? That's exactly what the Valley Of The Winds Walk does. We feel like explorers charting an unknown part of Mars. This is of course due to the orange desert of sand and stones around us, but also because it is very tranquil here. We only hear the whispering of the wind and the incessant buzzing of the flies around our heads.

Even in the middle of the desert, you can experience a bit of time pressure. You cannot start this trek after 11:00 AM. Australians are clearly afraid that a tourist might dehydrate and die at the hottest moment of the day. We are right on time and ready to embark on an adventure in the many valleys between the dome-shaped rocks. We enjoy the orange earth and the bright blue sky.

The walk is rated as reasonably difficult because the path is sometimes steep and strewn with rocks. However, we find it quite manageable with good hiking shoes. Moreover, with less than 6 kilometers, the path is not incredibly long. We spend no more than two hours among the Olgas. All in all, Valley Of The Winds is a beautiful walk, but it won't really stick with you.
