Jean-Pierre Clemençon, a French artist, lived in the house on the corner with Pluimstraat. To embellish his corner house a bit, he conceived a work of art named "The Knitting Girl." The man himself has long departed to sunnier places, but fortunately for us, he left his 'knitting girl' behind. Opposite the girl, there is a collection of objects on display: a piece of a Roman column, a car wheel, and a tin can, with a small barred window above. The entirety of these things is meant to represent life. The knitting girl herself represents the present or everyday life, the objects by her side symbolize dead or dying civilizations or the past, and the little window reflects the inner life of man or the future.
