The Citadel Park is a park in the Belgian city of Ghent. It is located in the city center on a ridge between the Scheldt and Leie. This city park was established in 1875 on the site where the Dutch citadel of Ghent used to stand, built between 1819 and 1831, and before that the Monterey fort. The land was purchased in 1870-1871 by the then mayor Charles de Kerchove de Denterghem. The citadel, one of the largest and most modern of its time in Europe and later used as an infantry and artillery barracks, remained in operation until 1870.
