During the Second World War, the Justice Palace was occupied by the German army and used as an arsenal and workshop; it also became the seat of the inspection of the Stage Area East and West Flanders.
The Court of Appeal was moved to the Flemish Academy on King Street, and the Court of First Instance ended up at the Little Sickle in the Nederpolder.
