Even in the Middle Ages, royals were quite international in marriages. For example, Acifthryth is buried here under the St. Peter's Abbey Church. She was the daughter of the English king Alfred the Great and was married to Baldwin II, Count of Flanders (865-918). She became the mother of Arnulf I (889-965).
