The suffix 'rode' comes from the German 'roden' which means 'to clear land'. The village of Sint-Agatha-Rode originated as a settlement in the middle of a forest. The Gothic Sint-Agatha church is made of white limestone from Gobertange. Its current form dates from around 1400. In front of the church stands a gigantic plane tree, a tree of freedom, which was planted there in 1830.
