St. Catherine's Church in Hoogstraten was built between 1525 and 1550 by order of Antoon van Lalaing and Elisabeth van Culemborg, count and countess of the county of Hoogstraten. The imposing building is also called "cathedral of the Kempen" or popularly called "our Katrien". The church was built in late Gothic style. In fact, it is a mixture of Kempen Gothic and Brabant Gothic according to plans by architect Rombout II Keldermans. The tower is 104.7 meters high and square at the base. This corresponds to about 150 Brabant cubits, because the meter did not yet exist in the 16th century. The base of the bell tower is quadrangular that merges into an octagonal candle with flame, a double pear spire covered with slates. White layers of sandstone make the church a flamboyant whole.
