Cistercian Abbey of La Ramée

The Cistercian Abbey of La Ramée was a Cistercian monastery in Jauchelette, Jodoigne, in the province of Walloon Brabant, Belgium, from 1215 to 1796.

In 1215, the Cistercian monastery of La Ramée was refounded on the river Grote Gete in Jauchelette, 16 kilometres east of Wavre. In the course of the advance of the French Revolution, it was closed and demolished in 1796. The manor house, which has been a listed building since 1980, has been restored and has been used for corporate events since 2008, is intact. The jewel in the crown of the complex, which is part of the "Patrimoine monumental exceptionnel de Wallonie", is a huge barn from the early 18th century with the largest slate roof in Europe and the most important wooden roof truss in Belgium. Another special feature is the "Fruiticum", a museum orchard. "La Ramée" is also used as a brand name for beer and cheese.
