The Sint-Martinuskerk is the parish church of the town of Lovendegem, which belongs to the East Flemish municipality of Lievegem, located at Dorp.
In 1140 a church building in Lovendegem was mentioned for the first time. During the Iconoclasm the church was largely destroyed and in 1616 the rebuilding was completed, carried out by Jan and Robrecht Persyns. The church was dependent on the Ghent St. Peter's Abbey. In the middle of the 18th century the tower was restored and in 1770 a sacristy was added. In 1788 the church was enlarged to the west with three bays. In 1822 the choir was rebuilt to a design by J.B. Van de Cappelle. In 1896-1897 the church was extensively restored in neo-Gothic style, adding a portal, side chapels and a transept.
