Chèvremont is a hamlet of Vaux-sous-Chèvremont, a nucleus of the municipality of Chaudfontaine, where a basilica and monastery of the Barefoot Carmelites are located.
On 17 March 1877, Theodore Joseph de Montpellier, Bishop of Liège, gave land on top of Mount Chèvremont to the Barefoot Carmelites. The bishop wanted to create a place of Catholic pilgrimage and devotion. The Carmelites built a church and monastery in the Gothic Revival style, according to the plans of the Dutch architect Pierre Cuypers. The church opened on September 8, 1899. In 1928 it became a minor basilica. At the start of World War II the German army bombed the place. Part of the church and organ were damaged.
