The tradition has it that Empress Maria Theresa had a bridge built over the Lesse following an accident of which she was a victim when she attempted to cross the river on horseback. The reality is, as is often the case with 'true' history, quite different. For the four-arched bridge between Maisin and Transinne was built during the reign of Albert and Isabella to facilitate the passage of the old and the 'one true' road from Bouillon to Liège.
