The little house with the cutest candy shop in the city is officially called 'the house of the Works of Mercy'. The guides can't seem to agree on the correct explanation of the relief on Mrs. Temmerman's little house.
As everyone knows, there are 7 works of mercy. Only 6 of the 7 works are depicted. The question is, of course, which work is actually missing. First, let's refresh our memory. The works are as follows: to feed the hungry, to give drink to the thirsty, to clothe the naked, to care for the sick, to visit the imprisoned, to bury the dead, and to host the stranger. One possible explanation is that 'to bury the dead' was omitted because the owner felt that this work was too gruesome to be depicted on a facade and therefore chose a symbolic urn at the ridge.
