Hoeve ter Meulen

So-called "Hof ter Meulen". Enclosed farmhouse on a rectangular plan, located near the Zaubeek, supposedly after the former owners of Vander Meulen or previously possibly with a mill. Mentioned in the land book of 1702 as a housed homestead and on the Ferraris map (1771-78) it is surrounded by a moat. Original farmhouse with detached components with farmhouse and stables grouped around a square, partly cobbled and paved courtyard with beautiful flower bed; Access via a covered gatehouse to the north of the moat. To the north, originally a detached brick gatehouse of four bays under a tiled gable roof (ridge parallel to the street) between side roofs with wickerwork and air gaps in the left gable, rising to the end of the 18th century (see the Ferraris map still with stone bridge). Recently added lower wing on the right, adjacent to the western stable wing. Rectangular entrance gate with passage under wooden lintel in right bay; bluestone corner blocks on the street side. Two left bays with attached garage under extended hipped roof; Wooden shelling in gable. Whitewashed yard façade articulated by pilasters, rectangular doors. To the south, on a light mound of nine bays under gable roof (thatch instead of straw, ridge parallel to the street) with three added climbing dormers and side gables with wickerwork; Ornamental anchor with heart motif and date 1784 in right top. Anchored whitewashed front and rear façade on pecked plinth. Renewed rectangular latticed wooden cross-bar frames with shutters. Traces of higher windows. Rectangular door with fanlight and iron ironwork. Rear façade with four similar latticed wooden cross-bar frames and rectangular door under wooden lintel. Interior: preserved composite beam layer with decorated nut beams and renewed large fireplace of sintered brick with heavy fireplace beam. Vaulted cellar with two barrel vaults on the south side. To the east and west, now adjoining brick business wings under red and black tiled gable roofs; whitewashed yard facades on pecked plinth. West wing, originally a barn, expanded in the second quarter of the 19th century and temporarily converted into a distillery. Nowadays horse stables.
