The Cross Chapel was built in 1626 as a thank you for the discovery of two miraculous crosses in 1317. A deeply religious farmer then dug up two small crosses from a field. One cross emitted a beam of blood. When the poor soul carried the peculiar find home, all the bells in the area began to ring. One cross is kept in the church of Eksaarde, the other, how could it be otherwise, in the Cross Chapel. They are symbolically connected with a Stations of the Cross.
