The St. Jacob's Church is built in Romanesque style and was constructed between 1220 and 1235, in the 13th century. Since 1290, only the tower remains of this original church, which is part of the seven wonders of Leuven. A new nave arose next to the tower between 1290 and 1300. The transept was erected between 1457 and 1488 by the master builder of the Leuven Town Hall, Matthijs de Layens.
