La-Roche-en-Ardenne is located on the banks of the Ourthe. The place attracts many tourists during the season, with plenty of opportunities for active sports such as mountain biking and paragliding. Every summer evening there is a show in which a ghost (named Berthe) appears with a bell at the medieval castle, a local legend. The war museum of La Roche-en-Ardenne shows that the town was completely bombed during World War II. The feudal castle of La Roche-en-Ardenne was built between the 11th and 14th centuries on a site that had been inhabited early on. This was demonstrated in the 20th century through excavations of prehistoric and Roman artifacts. From the 12th century, the castle played an important role in the defense of the town and the development of trade, becoming a stop on the trade route of English wool to Lombardy.
