Herryville Garden District

In addition to production, the management of the Langerbrugge power plant was very focused on the distribution and promotion of electric energy and popularizing the use of electric motors for workshops and farms. As part of this total concept and the social vision of the management and architect Dhuicque, a garden neighborhood was built near the power plant, on the territory of Evergem, for the staff (engineers, foremen, and the best workers). The garden neighborhood 'Herryville' was established in 1928 and named after the then-director. Only a number of houses and a centrally located building with a canteen, cinema, and banquet hall, janitor's apartment, and club for the engineers were constructed. In the immediate vicinity of the garden neighborhood, director Herry had a velodrome built in 1929 for the cycling club of the power plant's employees. The concrete velodrome was also built under the guidance of architect Dhuicque.
