We start at the Sterckshof. “In the 14th century, the farm Hooftvunder stood here, home to the lords of Deurne and named after an earlier crossing point of the Grote Schijn,” explains Ludwig Van den Eynde. In 1524, Gerard Sterck converted the farm into a Renaissance castle. Later, the estate came into the hands of the province via the Cogels family, which rebuilt it in the 1930s in Neo-Renaissance style. “Initially, Sterckshof was a museum for Arts and Crafts, until Jonkheer Pierre Lunden donated no less than 96 pieces of silver to the museum in 1976. It then becomes the Silver Museum. That closed in 2014 and merged into DIVA at Suikerrui.”
In 2025, the castle became the property of a Dutch investment group. The plans for it are still unclear. On the Eksterlaarpad, we encounter the Celtic tree horoscope on the left side. In a large circle in the grass field stand the 21 trees from the Celtic tree horoscope. On the information board, you can see which tree corresponds to your date of birth and which characteristics suit you.
