By the brook in Letterhoutem lived a farmer who had a lot of misfortune and had seen many of his animals become ill and die. Eventually, the farmer went to the priests of Ghent, who advised him to go to the early mass the following Sunday. There, the farmer would see an old woman standing by the church door, whom he was not allowed to touch. Everything happened as the priests had predicted. After that, the farmer had no more misfortune.
