The Meulestedebrug is a bridge over the Ghent-Terneuzen canal. That canal was dug under William I to provide Ghent with an outlet to the Westerschelde and the sea. The Meulestedebrug connects the Ghent working-class neighborhood of Muide with Wondelgem. It is the first bridge, leaving Ghent, across which road traffic can cross the canal. The only subsequent bridge for road traffic over the canal is the one in Zelzate.
