The picturesque Ten Putte Abbey (about 3 km from the center) is located at the site where Godelieve of Gistel lived and was murdered in 1070 on the orders of her husband Bertolf. The abbey is busy with pilgrims and tourists. In a dome chapel, there is the well with the miraculous water. Furthermore, you can visit the church, the devotion chapel, the crow chapel (on the motte), the place with the grace image, and the prison. The remarkable ‘seamless shirt’ is also exhibited there. The abbey has a modern reception center with a cafeteria, and there is also the St. Godelieve Museum. The abbey was formerly inhabited by Benedictine sisters. Since 2007, the young religious community Mother of Peace has lived in the abbey.
