VAN EYCKLEI:
Between van BrÚestraat and Loosplaats, on the south side of Stadspark, for the construction of the park (1867-1869), a wide carriageway and footpath along the Herentalse fort, unofficially called Rubenslei, officially first Wappers? in 1868 and thereafter Van Eycklei, named after the 15th-century painters Jan and Hubert Van Eyck. A wide street with two driving lanes and a narrow central strip, only the south side is developed with predominantly recent high buildings and some apartment buildings from the twentieth century. Several buildings in
neoclassical style from the nineteenth century. In Stadspark, at the corner with Rubenslei: a monument for the fallen.
Nr. 27: Neoclassical single-family house of two bays and two stories by J.B. Vereecken and son (cf. inscription), from around 1900. Natural stone façade with a patterned ground floor, wider right bay with a balcony, flanking pilasters and
triangular pediment. Rectangular windows, arched balcony window. Rectangular door with a round transom. During renovation, windows were replaced and balusters on the second floor disappeared.
