The Museum of Fine Arts was built here between 1902 and 1913 according to a design by Van Rysselberghe and is a textbook example of how a museum should actually be structured. Inside, the galleries, which all differ in size and shape, ingeniously flow into one another, and there is enough daylight everywhere to admire the fine arts under optimal conditions. And there is quite a lot of art with a capital A behind the walls of this museum.
Here you will find stunning paintings by masters such as Bosch, Rubens, Van Dyck, Hals, Jordaens, Ensor, Minne, and Permeke. The emphasis is on Dutch works, but those who pay close attention can also find a piece from Tintoretto or Géricault on the walls.
