The local history museum is located on the ground floor of the town hall.
In 1939, the 'Historical and Local History Circle' was founded within the local branch of the Davidsfonds. After World War II, the members of the circle began to collect materials for the establishment of a museum. The museum was officially opened in 1959.
The Circle is named after Jan Broeckaert (February 13, 1837 - February 9, 1911). This Wetteraar served as municipal secretary (1870-1872), clerk at the court of first instance in Dendermonde, and was a member of the Flemish Academy. Together with his friend Frans De Potter, he wrote several historical works, including the still frequently consulted 'The History of the Municipalities of East Flanders'.
The museum has a beautiful collection of artisanal materials, old clothing, and devotional items. The interior comes from the Maudens pharmacy. Worth a visit are the rural inn, the farmhouse kitchen, and the village classroom. The centerpiece is the old interior of the Maudens pharmacy from Van Cromphoutstraat. Scientifically important are the burial urns from a prehistoric burial site in Massemen. The museum has built up extensive documentation on community life. There is also a section of the private collection of Albert Van de Velde regarding the two world wars.
