At the foot of the Scheldebrug, on the roundabout, stands a memorial to the 12th-century castle, made of Doornik stone, near the original location. The French king Louis XIV had this fortification destroyed on the banks of the Scheldt in 1648.
Crossing the bridge, we continue over the Moerbeek, the border between Gavere and Asper. On the right, you can see the company Breydel, producer of Breydelham, Breydelspek, and others, recognized as East Flanders regional products.
