The buildings were constructed between 1890 and 1905. The complex was designed by architects Modeste de Noyette and O. Geerling and was built in eclectic style. The building covers an area of over 2 hectares and could originally accommodate about 1300 soldiers. Despite the fact that the barracks were already completed in 1905, it was not taken into use until two years later. On October 1, 1907, the 2nd Line Regiment took up residence in the barracks.
